Hi! My name is Niklas Högefjord. I’m a WordPress developer based in Arvika, Sweden – a small town (25 000 citizens) close to the Norwegian border.
This is the first post from this blog, hopefully there will be a lot more by the end of this year. My goal is to publish rather consistent, but I’m not sure of the publishing phase just yet… 🙂
Why a new blog?
I’ve been involved with WordPress development since late 2007 (around version 2.3), after having fiddling around in several different publishing plattforms (including one self developed system in ASP, lot of hours spent on that one…). I feel (and have felt for quite some time now) that is’t time to share my thoughts and ideas related to WordPress. I’m not sure where to begin but I’m starting with this blog post.
Other career plans in Uppsala
It has not always been about web development though. I left Arvika for Uppsala in 1996. My main goal then was to achieve something in the field of comedy/improv/acting. All my energy and focus was aimed towards this. I went to stand up comedy workshops, participated in improvisation theatre classes, got involved in children’s theatre groups, wrote and played comedy acts with others alike. All hard work actually payed off. Between 2002 and 2010 this type of work was my main income. I’m kind of proud of this.
One thing I did quite early after coming to Uppsala was to take a two-year course in journalism and media. One of the main focus areas was web publishing. Once I dipped my toe in that water, I was hooked. Even if the comedy part took most of my time, web development has been a very central subject since then.
From comedy and acting to full time web development
In 2010, my wife Karin and I decided to move back to Arvika (well not back for Karin, she’s from Uppsala). Since our third child was on it’s way I thought that this may be the right time to switch career, from working evenings and weekends on the stage to having a more “normal” office job. So, when we moved in June 2010 I started Krokedil Produktionsbyrå AB. Since then WordPress has been my livelihood and I’m loving every day of it.
Why start this blog?
I run a website development company and I’m the author of several plugins, mainly for WooCommerce and Jigoshop. When I take a step back and look at my work schedule and my social activities, I often find myself buried deep in code and projects. I realize that I have learnt a LOT about WordPress from tutorials, tweets and articles from people in the WP community. I’m a silent follower on Twitter, I don’t comment on many articles or blogs. I read and keep up to date on what’s happening in the community but I don’t contribute in any obvious way. This blog is a step in that direction. To give back in some way. By just share what I learn and find out. I’m not sure on the exact path yet, but I think it’ll show in time 🙂
Thanks for reading!
